Stop by My Daughter’s Blog

I don’t normally post twice in a day, but I think you’ll understand why I’ve made an exception. In order to hold back my “proud-momma” attitude, I think I’ll keep this post short and sweet. My daughter has always had a very tender heart for the school’s misfits. Her compassion has caused her pain on many occasions–caused her to be labeled, but even so, you’ll often see her approaching those kids no one else notices. Or perhaps the kids most everyone tries to avoid.

Coupled with her tender, compassionate heart is her desire for justice–her desire to see positive change. She often shares how frustrated she is when she sees others treat people unkindly–especially when the “snobs” are professing Christians. Well, last night after watching “To Save a Life,” she decided to do something about it. Here’s the first step she’s taking to try to initiate change. If you’ve got a teen, send them over.

It’s called: Uncool and Beautiful.

  1. Your daughter sounds a lot like you! 🙂 She is very brave to make a stand like that, and I deeply admire her for it. Middle school and high school are so hard! I honestly think they’re like war zones more than anything else. You must be very proud of her!

I hate to put in a plug-in like this, but I wrote a piece on preventing teen suicide that was published in Susie Magazine if your daughter or anyone else is interested. Let me know if you’re interested, and I can get you a link.

Suicide is a growing concern among teens, and it can be incredibly hard to know what to do. 50-75% of all suicides give some warning of their intention to a friend or family member, so it’s important to be on the lookout for that.

You’ll have to tell your daughter for me: keep your head up, girl! You are a much-needed light in a darkened world. Never forget that God is always with you, every single school day! You are an inspiration.

  2. Thanks! And you’ll have to ask her about posting the link on her blog, but I’d welcome you to do it here! Sounds like a great article!

  3. Do you think it would be something helpful and interesting for her? If so, I’ll gladly share. I had a suicidal friend when I was younger which is what the article is based off of, so I have a real heart for this. Not only for the ones with suicidal tendencies, but also for the friends of a suicidal person.

Anyway, I’d love to help anyone in a similar situation if there’s any way I can.
