My daughter just gave me this poem and I loved it so much I wanted to share it.
Your Life’s Book by Ashley Slattery
Your life is like an open book
For anyone who cares to look
The story of your life.
There it shall be
For all eyes to see
The story of your life
So now’s your chance
To take your stance
And with a heart-felt grin
Take up your pen
Write the story of your life
Now its your legacy
For the ones after you to see
Their turn to read
About who you came to be
The story of your life.
Our life story will live long after we are gone and although our past colors who we are, it does not define us. Unless we allow it to. The ending of our story, to a large extent, is up to us. And the ultimate question is, will the world be a better place after having read it, or are we just tickling their ears?
How old is this child? I thought she was about 10 to 12 yrs old? That is something every mother and father should put on the refrigerator and change the background every few days so they don’t begin to over look it…
I’m impressed! I know it comes from all those great genes she’s inherited. In all seriousness, I believe it to be a profound poem and you’ve done well in her upbringing.
Joy
Joy, you are so sweet. And yeah, she’s twelve. I’m actually thinking I’m going to save it and read it to her at her high school graduation then again on her wedding day to remind her of her early convictions. And actually, I think that poem has nothing to do with genes but everything to do with how God has drawn her to Him. I am so grateful for all God has done in her life. The best being the day He gave her new life. 🙂
What a nice poem! And isn’t it true, leaving a legacy in word is a special gift for many generations to enjoy.
Thanks, Carla.
